The City of Hallowell, Maine is seeking qualified candidates for the position of City Manager. Located in central Maine on the banks of the Kennebec River, Hallowell borders Maine’s Capital city, Augusta, and is within an hour of Maine’s 2 largest cities of Portland and Lewiston. With a historic downtown, popular with tourists, Hallowell is noted for its culture and old architecture. Hallowell is a dynamic full-service community within its 6.08 sq. miles
It has the Mayor/City Council/Manager form of government with 5 Councilors elected from wards and 2 Councilors and the Mayor elected at large, all for 3-year terms. Hallowell has a population of 2,635 with a gross municipal budget of $8.9 million and 15 FT/PT municipal employees.
The Council is seeking candidates with strong knowledge/experience in areas of budget/finance, grant writing and implementation, human resources, planning, policy and personnel management and labor relations are desired. Strong background and awareness of technology and its application in a municipal setting is desired. Superior supervisory and organizational skills, excellent written and oral communications, as well as excellent interpersonal skills are required. Leadership with integrity, honesty, openness and humor combined with creative problem solving and with the ability to work with a diverse and active citizen base is essential. The successful candidate is expected to become an active member of the community and residency in Hallowell is strongly desired but not mandatory.
Municipal management experience is preferred, but candidates with differing experience are encouraged to apply. The salary range is $95,000 to $130,000 to be determined based on experience and qualifications.
