While the Town of Fort Myers Beach does not operate its own police or fire department, we maintain close partnerships with the Lee County Sheriff's Office and Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District. We are seeking a candidate who can strengthen these vital interlocal relationships, fostering collaboration and ensuring the safety and efficiency of our community's operations.
Position Summary:
The Town Manager is responsible for the administration of the Town's affairs, including the enforcement of ordinances, implementation of Town Council policies, and management of the annual budget. The Town Manager provides visionary leadership and strategic direction to ensure the effective management of all municipal operations.
The Town Manager oversees all departments and functions, ensuring operational excellence and fiscal responsibility while fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation. This position is tasked with translating the Town Council's vision into actionable goals by planning, organizing, and directing Town operations in alignment with the Town's mission, vision, and strategic priorities.
As the primary leader of the municipality, the Town Manager is dedicated to advancing the long-term success of the community, maintaining transparent communication with the Town Council, and promoting the well-being and sustainability of the Town for its residents, businesses, and stakeholders.
Position Qualifications:
Education, Certification, and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
Minimum of five (5) years of executive leadership experience in municipal government required, with experience in a Florida municipality, beach / coastal community strongly preferred.
Minimum of five (5) years proven recent experience in emergency preparedness, response, and recovery, including coordinating emergency operations and managing FEMA-related processes.
ICMA Credentialed Manager designation highly preferred.
FCCMA Membership in active standing.
Certification in Emergency Management (e.g., FEMA ICS, NIMS, or CEM) is highly preferred.
The ideal candidate will have the following key areas of expertise:
Experience serving in a Town Manager capacity for a Florida municipality, preferably in a coastal or beach community.
Expertise in hurricane emergency response, recovery, and FEMA compliance.
Demonstrated ability to lead crisis response efforts in a municipal setting.
Grant administration experience.
Previous experience working closely with outside law enforcement and fire departments.
Legislative experience with the ability to advocate at local, state, and federal levels.
Capital improvement project planning and execution.
Experience in strategic planning.
Strong skills in community engagement and maintaining trust in municipal governance.
